Deleting your data

How to have a household deleted

  1. Email help@choredropper.com from any device that has ChoreDropper on it.
  2. Say which household you mean — the house name or the house code is enough.
  3. It is deleted in full within seven days, and you are told by reply when it is done.

ChoreDropper has no accounts, so there is no password to prove who you are. Writing from a device with the app on it is what stands in for that, which is why the first step says so.

Without emailing anybody

Leaving a house on the Me page removes that household and that person from the device you are holding and switches that phone's notifications off. It does not delete the household from the server, because a household belongs to everybody in it and one person leaving is not everybody agreeing to end it.

What is deleted

  • The household's name, its house code and its time zone.
  • Everyone in it: their first names, their colours and their quiet hours.
  • Every chore and routine, and every day of them that was ever written out.
  • The record of what was done, by whom and when.
  • The shopping list, and the order the household had taught it.
  • The meal plan and who was cooking.
  • The bin day and bin colours.
  • Every notification registration, so nothing further is ever sent to any device.
  • The record of a purchase, if the household bought ChoreDropper Plus.

In other words, all of it. ChoreDropper does not keep a copy, an archive or an anonymised version, and there is nothing left afterwards that could identify a household.

What is kept, and for how long

  • Nothing on ChoreDropper's side. There is no retention period, because nothing is retained.
  • Apple and Google keep their own record of a purchase, as the shops that took the money. That is theirs rather than ChoreDropper's, it is how a purchase can be restored on a new phone, and deleting a household here cannot reach it. Their own policies cover it.
  • The disk the server runs on is snapshotted once a day, and each snapshot is kept for five days before it is destroyed. A deleted household can therefore still exist inside a snapshot for up to five days afterwards. Snapshots are never read except to rebuild the whole server after a failure, and cannot be searched or opened for a single household.
